Readeo, a web site that allows people who are far away from one another to read together over the Internet in real-time, is giving free six-month subscriptions to military families through the month of April.
"The Month of the Military Child was established to recognize military families and their children for the daily sacrifices they make," said Coby Neuenschwander, founder of Readeo. "We are excited to provide children and their families with a service that can ease the pain of separation through shared reading experiences."
Participants sign up for a BookChat. Each person can see and hear each other as you read the book online. Books are available from major publishing houses including popular titles like Maisy Goes to Preschool and Alistair & Kip's Great Adventure. New titles are being added every day.
I love this whole concept. For military families and in any instance where a child is separated from an adult that they love. It can be a grandparent who is five states away or simply a parent on a road trip. The site offers a 14-day free trial -- after that it costs $9.99 a month or $99.95 per year. There is also a guest account that provides access just to the Book of the Month.
You provide the participants, the webcams and the broadband Internet connections and the site does the rest.
Happy reading!
