When my daughter was two, we learned about Bob Books thanks to some moms who were chatting on the playground. From the second we met Mat and his friends, the pair of us were completely sold, and to this day, my little girl (who is now seven), will bring out her tattered sets to read to her baby brother.
The books are incredibly accessible to young readers -- introducing children to letters, words and eventually reading, slowly and gently in a fun way that they can master on their own speed.
And now the popular franchise is expanding, thanks to two new Bob Books sets that review sight words -- Sight Words -- Kindergarten (compare prices) and Sight Words -- First Grade (compare prices). And yes, while the titles imply they are for older children, once your little one has mastered earlier books in the series, or, if they are able to read some basic words, these would be a good fit . And, certainly, you can read them to your little one as well.
The books focus on decodable words -- each letter in the word has one sound -- as well as sight words with the First Grade book being a bit harder than the Kindergarten one. And like all the books in the series, they are funny -- complete with silly pictures that are sure to make your little one laugh.
